Ralph Grosswald is a Phi Beta Kappa and Honors graduate of the University of North Carolina. He continued his education with doctoral studies in psychology and organizational development before entering his entrepreneurial career in 1970. In 1994 Mr. Grosswald was honored with the prestigious National Blue Chip Enterprise Award from the US Chamber of Commerce, having won this national business accolade from over 700 nominated companies. He has built and sold companies, employed over a thousand people, and has done business in over 30 countries. He has consulted with dozens of small businesses over his career and served on the board of several companies.
Grosswald started his first business in 1970, a fashion clothing store that grew to seven stores in three cities in the first three years. He then began manufacturing his own brand of clothing for his retail stores and wholesaling fashion items to major retailers like Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Nordstrom, as well as major national chains like The Gap and Merry go Round. From 1984 to 1996 Mr. Grosswald was involved in the development of a new type of pharmaceutical capsule. He raised $12.5 million, hired top experts in the pharmaceutical field, and negotiated and secured a worldwide exclusive license for critical raw materials. At the time he sold his holdings to an investment group in 1997, his company was producing over 2 billion capsules a year with markets in 30 countries, giving Mr. Grosswald extensive international business experience. Subsequently, his company was acquired by the R.P. Scherer Company, the world’s largest producer of softshell capsules.
Mr. Grosswald joined the formation of GoldWest LLC in 2017 to contribute his prior experience in international business. GoldWest was involved in development projects all over the world, focusing on sustainability and environmental challenges in the precious metals industry. He handled business development, strategic planning, marketing, and legal and financial issues.
In his business career he has raised over $15 million in start-up capital and has secured funding from investment funds ranging from $250 million in assets under management to over $4 billion in assets. He has been involved in projects all over the world, has bought and sold over $10 million in real estate development projects, and has built companies in the retail sector, manufacturing, pharmaceutical research and development, precious metals, and real estate. This extensive background has given Grosswald experience and skills in a wide variety of business venues and allowed him to help many small businesses with his passion for providing advisory services to entrepreneurs progressing on the same journey he has experienced.
